EARTHENTIC ACTION IS WHERE THE FOREST MEETS MODERN TECHNOLOGY
Vuse x Platbos Forest: An Earthentic action designed to save a relic forest.
Vuse has the ambition to build a broader ecosystem of environmental sustainability initiatives than any other global vapour brand, with the view to establishing ourselves as category leaders in ESG*
Vuse has now taken on some more Earthentic Action by having partnered up with Africa’s southernmost forest – The Platbos Forest Reserve.
Platbos Forest is one of the few surviving indigenous forests in South Africa. A Lowland Afro temperate forest remnant, it is filled with ancient trees, some of which are over a 1000 years old. The forest, found on the slopes of the Baviaanspoort Hills, is located on the Grootbos Road between the fishing village of Gansbaai and the seaside town of Hermanus in the Western Cape Province. Southern Right whales gather each year in Spring to birth their young in the blue waters of Walker Bay, a few kilometres away from the forest.
The Platbos Forest is vulnerable to various natural disasters and together we can help preserve one of the few surviving indigenous forests in South Africa. When you purchase our Earthentic skins, the proceeds will go towards protecting the Platbos and as Vuse we will be matching all the sales as our contribution.
To celebrate the natural beauty and diversity in South Africa, we have designed limited-edition skins, featuring four of our South African biomes. Inspired by our natural diversity, designed to celebrate our unique biomes:
OCEAN: South Africa's coasts have an exceptionally rich and diverse marine life, with a huge variety of ecosystems and species that thrive here.
FYNBOS: This biome is found in the south-western corner of South Africa and is known to be synonymous with the Cape Floral Kingdom, one of earth's six plant kingdoms.
FOREST: Although forests cover less than 0.25% of South Africa's surface area, making it the smallest biome, they are vital for the survival of many species such as the Samango monkey, Cape Parrot and Blue Duiker.
SAVANNAH: Occupying one third of the area of South Africa, the Savannah is the largest biome in the country. Almost every major geological soil type occurs in this biome and the great variation supports over 5700 plant species and over 800 animal species.
We asked our audience to vote for their favourite skins and the ones that won were Fynbos and Forest. Now, the production of these skins will become our solution to helping The Platbos Forest conserve its beauty and heritage.
