Inspired to take action

In May 2021, our sustainability partner, Vertis, an independent environmental commodity trading and carbon advisory firm, officially certified us as 100% carbon neutral – making us the first global vaping brand to accomplish this important achievement.

The most sustainable vaping brand
in the world

Since we embarked on this journey of sustainability, we’ve introduced three initiatives to help reduce our impact on the environment – the first of many – and they’ve all had a major impact on our impact on the planet.

We’re carbon neutral*

In May 2021, our sustainability partner, Vertis, an independent environmental commodity trading and carbon advisory firm, officially certified us as 100% carbon neutral* – making us the first global vaping brand to accomplish this important achievement.

This wasn’t an easy task, and it required us to make some big changes to the way we do things.
Our full-scale decarbonisation plan included:

• Improving our factories’ energy efficiencies by upgrading to lower-impact equipment.
• Increasing renewable energy usage through sustainable energy purchasing and on-site generation.
• Ongoing carbon off-setting through reforestation projects in South America.

And just because we’ve reached carbon neutrality* doesn’t mean our job is done: we’re still on the lookout for more ways to offset our carbon footprint and to preserve the delicate balance of natural life on Earth.

* Based on ePod, ePen, eTank mini, Alto devices and consumables internal sales forecast (calculated March 2021) for 12 months starting from April 2021.

WE DROPPED THE POD

We know that it’s often not a lack of passion that prevents people from making sustainable choices, but rather a lack of convenient options. That’s why we started Drop The Pod: by giving our vapers an easy way to return their used flavour pods to us, we could ensure that they’re disposed of responsibly and that they don’t end up in a landfill. As of today, South Africans have dropped 1 000 000** of your used flavour pods to be responsibly disposed of. We’ve even sweetened the deal by offering 25% off on your next pod pack*** when you drop 10 pods.

WE CUT THE WRAP

Single-use plastics wreak havoc on environments all over the world, especially our marine life. In a country like South Africa, with such diverse and historic coastlines and waterways, this tragedy is especially pronounced. We’ve already started doing our part to reduce plastic pollution by crafting our packs from recycled cardboard and removing plastic film from our device kit and pod packaging, eliminating the equivalent of 4 million plastic bottles**** – and by the end of 2022, we’ve committed to eliminating all single-use plastics from our packaging.

**** Vuse's latest ePen pods are now silicone cap-free in all Vuse Markets except Mexico and Colombia. Plastic film has been removed from all new ePod starter kits and pod packs in Vuse markets. Plastic saving per annum was calculated from 2020 manufactured volumes and the plastic bottles comparison was based on a 22.9g bottle weight, representative weight of 500ml commercially available soft drink bottles (May 2020). Results have been verified by an independent body.

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING

We know there’s still so more that we can do, and that’s why our sustainability journey doesn’t end here. We’ll be announcing new and exciting initiatives and collaborations as we continue to use our creativity to treat our planet with more kindness.

Responsible disposal

Along with our Drop the Pod initiative to responsibly dispose of Vuse flavour pods, we are committed to minimising our impact on the environment in respect of all our Vuse and Twisp products. Electrical and electronic goods and batteries should not be disposed of as part of regular household waste, but should be separately collected for recovery and recycling.

The Fine Print:
• Only returned used Vuse ePod flavour pods will qualify for the 50% off a flavour pack. We will accept any used pods, but non-Vuse ePod flavour pods will not be eligible for the 50% off a flavour pack.
• Should your preferred flavour pack not be in stock at the time of return, you may select an alternative flavour from our range of flavours.
• To qualify for the Drop the Pod initiative, the used Vuse ePod flavour pods must be dropped in batches of 10; and only at your nearest Vuse Inspiration Store™.
• The Drop the Pod initiative may be terminated at any time without prior notice.

Our introductory offer was in market for 2 weeks. Given the massive response we have decided to keep incentivising returning of the pods. With this new mechanic, we expect we can still excite our consumers and entrench a behaviour of responsible disposal. Our aim is to protect the environment and make sure consumers know they can always stop at a store to leave their pods, so we can take care of the rest. We added an incentive to kickstart the journey, and we are pleased with how many pods Vusers are returning. Being responsible and sustainable is something they care about.

Pod dropping is a service we want you the consumer to use, all the time - forever. Leave the pods with us and we will take care of the rest! The aim is to protect the environment and ensure we always think twice before we toss out empty pods. Our Vuse community supports our commitment to sustainable disposal.
