ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT E-LIQUIDS

A woman thinks in an office about the e-liquids in her e-cigarette

What is an e-liquid?

E-liquids, also known as e-cigarette liquids, are special mixtures used to make e-cigarettes work. When an e-cigarette is used, there is always an e-liquid. In the case of disposable puff e-cigarettes, the e-liquid is already inside the device and cannot be refilled when it runs out.

Not all e-liquids are the same. For example, Vuse e-liquids are sold in capsule form called Pods, which are then clipped into your electronic cigarette.

If you've recently switched from cigarettes to vaping, or are thinking of doing so, you'll find everything you need to know about e-liquids in this guide.

How do e-liquids work?

How do e-liquids work? It's surprisingly simple. Most vaping devices have three main components: a battery, a tank and a resistor (or coil) inside the tank. When activated, the battery sends energy to the resistor, which heats up. The e-liquid comes into contact with the heated resistor and turns into vapour, which is then inhaled through the mouthpiece.

What ingredients are used in e-liquids?

Although e-liquids are very different from one another, they all have certain key ingredients in common:

  • Propylene glycol (PG): This is one of the main basic ingredients in e-liquids. PG is known for its ability to carry flavours effectively and to produce a finer vapour.
  • Vegetable glycerine (VG): VG is another basic ingredient commonly found in e-liquids. It is used to produce clouds of vapour.
  • Flavours: E-liquids are available in a wide variety of flavours, from traditional tobacco and menthol to fruity and even exotic. These ingredients add flavour and fragrance to the vapour produced.
  • Nicotine (optional): Most e-liquids contain nicotine, an addictive substance. Nicotine levels can vary from very low to high, allowing users to choose their nicotine level or even opt for nicotine-free e-liquids.

Which e-liquid should I choose?

There are many different e-liquids on the market. Choosing your e-liquid(s) is an important step for all vapers. In fact, it's mainly the e-liquid that's going to give you a pleasant vaping experience.

E-liquids can have different nicotine levels. Nicotine levels are always expressed in milligrams per millilitres or "mg/ml ". The most common nicotine levels are: 3 mg/ml, 6 mg/ml, 12 mg/ml, 18 mg/ml or 20 mg/ml. There are also nicotine-free e-liquids. Your choice of nicotine level depends on your usual nicotine intake.

E-liquids also offer a wide variety of flavours, allowing vapers to personalise their experience. The most common flavours include tobacco flavours. However, e-liquids offer much more than this. You can find fruity, mentholated or exotic flavours.

How to look after your e-liquid?

To get the most out of your vape, you need to maintain and use your e-liquid correctly.

  • Don't let the e-liquid level get too low: using vape when there is little or no e-liquid can damage the device and produce an unpleasant taste. Always replace ePods when the level is low.
  • Keep your e-cigarette clean: debris can build up over time and affect the way your vape works. This can have an impact on the transformation of the e-liquid into vapour inside your Vuse device.
  • Store your e-liquid correctly: keep e-liquids upright and away from water, sunlight and high temperatures.

Why choose e-liquids from reliable sources?

When you buy refills or e-cigarette liquids from unreliable sources, you expose yourself to risks, as you never know under what conditions and where the products were created. E-liquids from unreliable sources may contain risky ingredients or nicotine levels that are too high. This makes it all the more important to limit the risks and only choose reliable products from brands that comply with Swiss regulations.

All Vuse e-liquids are made from high-quality pharmaceutical and food ingredients. We carry out a toxicological risk assessment for every ingredient in every flavour of our e-liquids. We examine every detail to understand the potential effects, from the composition of the e-liquids to the vapour they give off.
