How to Clean a Vape Pod

Cleaning a vape pod depends on the pod type. Open-system (refillable) pods can be rinsed with warm water, dried for 24 hours, and refilled. Closed-system (pre-filled, factory-sealed) pods cannot and should not be cleaned internally — only the exterior connection contacts can be wiped. Device connection points on any pod type should be kept clean and dry with a cotton swab.

How to clean an open-system (refillable) pod
 

Use this method when switching e-liquid flavours, removing a flavour residue, or clearing a pod that has had a leak inside.
 

Empty the pod completely

Remove the pod from the device. Empty any remaining e-liquid by inverting the pod and allowing it to drain into a tissue or paper towel. Dispose of remaining e-liquid responsibly — do not pour down drains if it contains nicotine.
 

Remove the coil head (if applicable)

If your pod uses a replaceable coil head, remove it before rinsing the pod body. The coil head should not be submerged in water unless you intend to follow a separate coil-cleaning procedure and allow full drying.
 

Rinse with warm water

Hold the pod body under a gentle stream of warm (not hot) tap water. Allow water to flow through the fill port and exit through the coil seat or airflow openings. Swirl water inside the reservoir and tip it out. Repeat 2–3 times until the rinse water runs clear and any flavour residue is reduced.
 

Shake out excess water

Gently shake the pod to dislodge water from inside the reservoir. Blow gently through the airflow inlet to push remaining water droplets out through the mouthpiece opening.
 

Air dry completely — minimum 24 hours

Place the pod upright on a paper towel in a well-ventilated area and allow it to air-dry at room temperature for at least 24 hours. Do not attempt to speed-dry with heat (hair dryer, oven) as this can deform the pod housing or damage seals. Do not reinstall or fill the pod before it is completely dry — residual water mixed with e-liquid degrades flavour and can cause the device to malfunction.
 

Refill and reinstall

Once the pod is fully dry, reinstall the coil head if it was removed (or insert a fresh one if the old coil was worn). Fill with e-liquid through the designated fill port. Allow 10 minutes for the cotton to saturate before firing.
 

How to clean closed-system (pre-filled) pod connections
 

Pre-filled closed-system pods (such as Vuse pods) cannot be opened or rinsed internally. They are single-use and should be replaced when depleted. However, the exterior connection contacts can accumulate e-liquid residue and should be kept clean.
 

How to clean the pod's exterior contacts
 

1. Remove the pod from the device.
2. Use a dry cotton swab or a cotton swab very lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol (70%) to wipe the metal contact pins at the base of the pod.
3. Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the pod.
4. Do not allow liquid to enter the pod through the airflow or coil opening.
    

How to clean the device (battery unit) connection area
 

The device's pod slot accumulates e-liquid residue over time, which can interfere with the electrical connection and reduce performance.
 

1. Power off or lock the device before cleaning.
2. Remove the pod.
3. Use a dry cotton swab to wipe the interior of the pod slot — the metal contact points and the walls of the pod chamber.
4. For stubborn residue, lightly dampen the cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol. Do not allow liquid to drip into the device body.
5. Allow to dry fully before reinserting a pod.

• Do not use soap or detergent — residue can affect e-liquid flavour and potentially damage seals.
• Do not use the device while any part is still damp.
• Do not attempt to disassemble or open a factory-sealed pre-filled pod.
   

Cleaning frequency
 

• For open-system refillable pods: clean when switching to a significantly different flavour profile, when residue is noticeable, or after a leak event. Many adult nicotine consumers clean refillable pods every 1–4 weeks as part of coil replacement maintenance.
• For device connection areas: inspect weekly or whenever connection-related performance issues arise (intermittent firing, poor contact).
