Vaping has gained in popularity in recent years, but how socially acceptable is vaping, especially compared to smoking?
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VAPING AND SMOKING?
NO TOBACCO
Although most eLiquids used for e-cigarettes contain nicotine, they do not contain tobacco, which means that they don't contain tobacco-derived tar*. Vaping devices work by heating an eLiquid, which creates a vapour rather than smoke, and this tobacco-free vapour is thought to be less dangerous as second-hand smoke.
*By 'no tar' we mean no tobacco-derived tar. This product is not risk-free and contains nicotine, which is an addictive substance
NO STALE CIGARETTE ODOUR
That stale smoke smell that clings to your hair and clothes? That’s a problem exclusive to cigarettes.
NO ASH
Since vaping devices don’t produce ash, you and those around you don’t have to worry about ash landing on your clothes. Vuse products have no tobacco, no ash, no tar and no smoke odour.
*By 'no tar' we mean no tobacco-derived tar. This product is not risk-free and contains nicotine, which is an addictive substance
LESS TOXICANTS
Vuse products have 99% fewer toxicants than cigarettes.
WHAT ARE PEOPLE’S PERCEPTION ABOUT VAPING?
Vaping has become a popular alternative to smoking in recent years, and is seen as a potentially less harmful alternative by most people.
Since it is the tobacco in cigarettes (and not the nicotine) that is harmful, second-hand vapour from an e-cigarette isn't thought to be as harmful as second-hand smoke from a cigarette because it doesn't involve tobacco.
So, are there concerns about second hand vaping?
Second-hand vape emissions contain compounds that could pose risks to bystanders in high concentrations. However, compared to second-hand cigarette smoke, the number and levels of such compounds are far less because vaping does not involve the burning of tobacco or the production of emissions between puffs.
SO, IS VAPING SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE IN SOCIETY?
Over time, vaping has become more widely accepted among many people. It’s also easier to vape than smoke in some public places, meaning that people are now more exposed to it than smoking.
Growing misconceptions around e-cigarettes have impacted the public’s view on vaping, but it remains a popular alternative to smoking for many. No tobacco, no ash, no tar and no smoke odour* helps vaping to be seen as more socially acceptable than smoking.
*This product is not risk-free and contains nicotine, an addictive substance. Vuse's claims are based on a comparison of smoke from a scientific standard reference cigarette (which contains approximately 9 mg tar) and the emissions from a Vuse ePod. This comparison looked at the average levels of 9 harmful components, as identified by the World Health Organisation (WHO). WHO recommends reducing these 9 components in cigarette smoke to reduce harm.
