HOW MUCH NICOTINE DO YOU GET FROM VAPING?
It’s easy to get a bit lost amongst all the different e-liquid flavours and vaping devices, not to mention the terminology around them. And if you’ve just started vaping it’s a whole new world.
One important thing for first-time vapers to understand is nicotine strength – how much nicotine do you get from vaping. Different people prefer different strengths, so you need to find the one that suits you.
WHY IS NICOTINE USED IN VAPES?
Nicotine naturally occurs in the tobacco plant. Vaping can be used as a way for adult smokers to quit or cut down from smoking cigarettes. As most vapes contain nicotine, it can sometimes be used to replace cigarettes but with fewer of the harmful toxicants* found in traditional cigarettes because there is no burning of tobacco in vaping.
*Vaping is not risk free and contains nicotine, an addictive substance.
HOW IS NICOTINE STRENGTH MEASURED?
The concentration of nicotine in an e-liquid is measured in milligrams of nicotine per millilitre of e-liquid. This is usually shown as ‘mg’, and it’s this number you’ll see on the front of Vuse packaging. The higher the number, the more nicotine in your pod or bottles of e-liquid.
HOW MUCH NICOTINE IS IN e-CIGARETTES vs CIGARETTES?
The difference in nicotine between eCigs and cigarettes is tricky, but we know a lot of vapers ask this question. It depends on your smoking habits, so the strength of cigarettes you would smoke or how many you’d smoke. The e-liquid nicotine equivalent to smoking would need to be compared against your e-liquid nicotine strength and what style of vaping you prefer. It’s very much down to each individual and their habits, what’s right for one person might not be for another.
Nicotine in cigarette smoke is also present substantially in a salt form. However, conventional e-liquids do not produce vapour with appreciable amounts of nicotine salts. Addition of certain ingredients to the nicotine-containing e-liquid formulation forms nicotine salts that are carried into the vapour. Many consumers may prefer such a type of vapour, which some data indicate more closely approximates nicotine effects provided by cigarette smoke. E-liquids with nicotine salts may also be more stable in terms of shelf life than other e-liquids.
HOW MUCH NICOTINE IS IN VUSE E-LIQUIDS?
Vuse make all our e-liquids in a range of nicotine strengths, from 0mg/ml (no nicotine) to 20mg/ml.
Of course, it’s difficult to suggest which strength will work best for you. A whole range of factors influence how much nicotine a person will take in with a single puff – from which device you’re using, to how much vapour you take in per inhalation.
WHERE TO START?
We offer a range of nicotine strengths in our ePod and ePen pods which are designed for use with our ePod2 and ePen rechargeable devices, as well as our eLiquids bottles for open system users.
20mg - Our highest e-liquid strength is available only in Vuse GO which is a pre-filled disposable, non-rechargeable device containing a non-replaceable lithium-ion polymer battery and is designed for single use.
18mg – Suits experienced adult smokers and vapers. Make sure you have the right device to suit your nicotine strength or get in touch with our vape experts for any guidance.
12mg - If you’ve used other nicotine products before, such as cigarettes, you might want to start off with a higher dosage – like our 12mg/ml or 18mg/ml e-liquids. Nicotine is absorbed differently when vaping and affects people differently. The key is to try out some different strengths and work out which one you prefer.
6mg & 3mg – We also provide lower nicotine strengths to allow you to reduce your nicotine consumption over time.
our nicotine-free 0mg/ml (Zero range) lets you do just that.
Now that you know what the numbers on the bottle mean we hope you’ll be able to find the right Vuse flavour for you. Take a look at our handy beginner’s guide for more information on vaping or explore our Vape Kits and vape devices to help you get started.
IS NICOTINE SAFE?
Nicotine has been used for decades in licensed medicinal products with few significant adverse effects and such products have been deemed safe enough for over-the-counter sale without a prescription in many countries.
However, nicotine is a highly addictive substance and may be hazardous to health. Rapid oral ingestion or dermal absorption of nicotine in high amounts is acutely toxic and may be life-threatening, particularly for children. Find out more about is vaping addictive here.
