Types of vapes you should know about
Vaping devices have evolved at an incredible rate since the first modern e-cigarette was invented in 2003, and there is now a huge array of vapes to choose from. But which type of vape is right for you?
Different devices are better suited to different requirements, such as your level of experience, your preferred size and how much you want to spend, so it's important to do your research before deciding on your vape.
What are the different types of vapes?
Vape pens have a pen-like shape and are generally compact, lightweight and discreet. The two main features are a cartridge that houses the e-liquid and a powerful rechargeable battery that heats the cartridge and produces vapour.
They’re very easy to use, making them ideal for all vapers but especially those new to vaping. Try our ePen 3 starter kit if you’re just starting out. You can customise your vape pen to suit you, from the flavours you choose to the size, style and colour of your device.
A pod vape is another compact and lightweight vaping device and looks fairly similar to a vape pen. It is also made up of two pieces: a battery and a replaceable or refillable pod. Once your pod is empty, simply remove it and replace it with a new pod, or refill the pod if you’ve got a refillable model.
They’re easy to use, making them another great option for beginner vapers. Try our ePod starter kit as a starting point.
Box mod vapes are larger than other vaping devices and get their name from their box-like shape. They typically feature a larger battery which helps with battery life, and you can interchange different types of batteries, atomisers and tanks to make up your box mod. You can also control wattage, power and temperature to vary the intensity and taste of your vaping experience.
These types of vape are best for those seeking flexibility and customisability, so they’re better suited to more experienced vapours and for those who don’t mind carrying round a little extra weight.
Cig-a-likes, so called because of their cigarette-like appearance, are the smallest and simplest vapes on the market. They’re ready to use from the moment you open the pack, and most cig-a-likes are disposable, although refillable versions are also available.
Which vape is the right one for me?
Now you’ve had an overview of the different types of vape available, it’s time to choose the right device for you. Think about the following factors:
How much do you want to spend on your vape? A box mod will have the biggest upfront cost, while cig-a-likes may end up more expensive in the long run. You can save money on vape pens and pod vapes by buying them as part of a bundle.
If your priority is having a device that is compact and discreet, a box mod may be too chunky for you, and you may prefer a vape pen or pod vape, or even cig-a-likes.
You’ll find the biggest flavour variety with a vape pen, a pod vape or a box mod, so choose from one of these devices if you like to mix and match flavours.
If you’re new to vaping, it’s best to start off with a vape pen, a pod vape or cig-a-likes. As you become more experienced, you may choose to stay with a vape pen or pod vape, or try out a box mod.
